The Veolia Institute continues to provide answers to this critical question, following on from an online conference and an edition of its *Facts Reports* that explored the issue. It will be running a cycle of debates on **The African City of Tomorrow,** in partnership with *Le Monde* newspaper, during November and December 2021.

**Launched in Rabat, wrapped up in Paris**

Supported by Veolia’s Africa & Middle East zone, this is an opportunity to listen to a range of views on the continent’s growing urbanization and the challenges this presents, combining feedback on best practices from actors in the field with analysis from experts.

The opening debate will be held in Rabat on November 4. The entire morning will focus on issues surrounding access to essential services. The session will feature leading figures from Moroccan public life such as **Driss Benhima**, former Wali, CEO of the National Electricity Authority (ONE) and Minister of Transportation, **Moncef Ziani**, Director General of the Moroccan Economic, Social and Environmental Council, **Sheryn Ziani**, Director of the Waste Recovery Coalition, **Nabil Touzani**, General Secretary of Renault Morocco, and **Salima Naji**, architect and planner, as well researchers and experts who will discuss the obstacles to overcome and the levers for developing and extending essential services to as many people as possible.

The next session will be held in Abidjan, on November 18, and will focus on the challenges facing intermediate cities. An online program, shown on December 1, will look at the continent in terms of the circular economy. The program will feature a video report on the wastewater treatment plant in Windhoek, Namibia, a pioneer in reusing treated wastewater for domestic use that meets 35% of drinking water needs for the city and its surrounding area.

**The African City of Tomorrow** will also feature a summary of the public debates in *Le Monde* in early December, and a closing session looking back on the event’s highlights will be held at the paper’s Paris offices on December 9.
